Computer-controlled Machining

CNC milling (Computerized Numerical Control) is a subtractive manufacturing technology, which means that material is taken from an item to make it. We discussed 3D printing a few weeks ago, which is an additive manufacturing technology that creates objects by layering materials. A form is produced from a stock material in a subtractive manufacturing approach. Machinable wax, foam, veneer plywood, MDF, MDO, polycarbonate, and aluminum are some of the most typical stock materials.

Wildcard assignment

Our assignment this week is to design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in another tasks. Nikita and I joined forces to design, manufacture, and create a skateboard using a vacuum former.

As part of the process, we had to drill down the material to the bed and set the origin (x, y and z) to the corner of the material. We could then get drilling.
